DMARC Email Authentication
Overview
Over 90% of cyberattacks that succeed are initiated with a seemingly harmless email. Relying on in-built security systems leaves organizations and businesses vulnerable to cybercriminals, who are continually exploring and exploiting loopholes existing in these flawed systems. Phishing emails, for example, goes so far as to persuade users or employees to divulge personal information, approve false bills, or download malware that can infect the company’s network. DMARC (Domain-Based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance) is an email authentication standard or protocol that determines whether an email is authentic or not. It relies on SPF and DKIM, two other protocols, to decide the authentication status of an email. It provides visibility of the sources sending emails from an organization’s domain, ensures better email deliverability, and, most importantly, provides security against domain spoofing, phishing, and impersonation attacks.
