Remote Workforce Protection

The corporate sector has seen a drastic and unprecedented shift as business owners adjusted to the threats of COVID-19. Remote working or ‘work from home’ as we commonly call it, is the new normal. In fact, many tech giants have asked their employees to opt for remote work even after the pandemic. By the end of 2021, the percentage of employees for whom remote working will be the norm post-pandemic is expected to be between 25% and 30%. In 2020, there has been a growth in the number of CEO impersonation attacks in which cybercriminals pose as high-ranking personnel such as a company’s CEO to carry out malicious deeds. The risk is significant as users working from home have no way to double-check the authenticity of such emails. BEC (Business Email Compromise) and Phishing were the most common types of attacks during the past couple of years and in both these attacks, emails were used as a primary vector to trick victims.

Such attacks can be avoided by implementing DMARC on your emailing systems. DMARC (Domain-Based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance) is an email authentication protocol that determines whether an email is authentic or not. It relies on SPF and DKIM, two other protocols, to decide the authentication status of an email.
